During the 20th Century, the world saw many changes in the clothing of both men and women, it was serious change in both design and the materials used in apparel. This reform was spearheaded by fashion designers, which are the rockstars of fashion. Many of these most famous fashion designers of the 20th Century are still plying their trade today, as their unique ability to show the form (particularly that of a woman) at its most beautiful has not waned.
These fashion stars do this by creating elegant, modern and stylish clothing that complements the female form to the ultimate. This blog concentrates on the best fashion designers in the world of all time.
Yves Saint Laurent
Yves Saint Laurent had a unique gift, he would take traditional male clothing and use his amazing creativity to redesign these masculine clothes into beautiful garments for women. There is no doubt that he is one of the most famous French fashion designers, and in 1966 he created the power suit for ladies.
Perhaps Yves Saint Laurent most iconic item of all time was the elegant male smoking jacket which he later transformed into a lady’s garment. His idea of making off-the-peg and ready-to-wear clothing transformed affordable fashion for the masses which also created the high street fashion chains we all know today.
Pierre Cardin is classed as a French designer, but he was actually born in Italy. His designs have always been futuristic and ahead of their time. His famous bubble dresses were something from a science fiction movie and definitely reflecting the space race that was prevalent in the early 70’s.
His dresses were certainly wacky but his clothes showed freedom from traditional design parameters, his creations were out of the box in the way they were designed and the colors and materials he chose. Cardin was the first designer to sell out, by that he allowed his famous name to be used as an endorsement for many random products, everything from watches to cars.
This highly talented designer is one of our more modern fashion creators, studying under both Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent he became creative director for both brands. Tom Ford first wanted to go into acting and even trained as one, but his talents in clothing design were too great to be ignored. And in 2000, when Ford won the highly acclaimed Best International Designer Award, the die was set and another fashion genius had been unearthed. We continue our look at the greatest fashion designers of all time in part two of this series.
